ENG265 - Concepts of Materials Engineering
This unit aims to provide knowledge about the basic concepts of generic material properties related to density, deformation, yield, ductility, fracture, toughness, susceptibility to corrosion and fatigue. Issues related to economic and environmental sustainability of materials are also introduced. Students learn more about influence of material properties on engineering design, description of material structures and relationships to properties. Materials testing laboratories are used to illustrate the mechanical properties of different materials. This unit builds a student's understanding of the way materials behave when load or deformations are applied to them.
