ENG487 Hvac Systems

This unit deals with the practical applications of basic thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid flow for design and integration of HVAC systems. Analogies are also drawn with such industrial applications involving changes in humidity as cooling towers and tray driers. The use of psychrometric charts for analysis of various processes involving moist air is explained and demonstrated. Standard AIRAH procedures are introduced for the estimation of heating/cooling load and the air supply requirements. Various methods of duct design and sizing are discussed, including the fan selection.

This unit is reliant on on-line materials including electronic submission of assessment items. Students must have access to a reliable high-speed broadband connection and a scanner.
