ENV301 - Tropical Invaders and Biosecurity
Tropical Invaders and Biosecurity aims to introduce students to global changes at the political, financial, cultural and social levels that could lead to widespread invasions of inappropriate species. This unit describes the impact of invaders - plant, animal and microbial - and our role in this process. Students are introduced to different views on what constitutes an invader and the characteristics of invaded sites. This unit discusses the threat posed by invaders, ranging from threats to human health to our threatened landscapes. This unit introduces the concept of Australian species as pests both nationally and internationally and introduces students to ways we can manage invasions and learn from past case studies to implement appropriate control and prevention procedures.
