EST220 - Equity, Inclusion, Diversity and Advocacy
This unit introduces students to historical and contemporary social and cultural influences on children's lives and learning through close examination of legislation, policy, programmes, and practices. Preservice teachers will critically explore and apply principles for inclusion of children's diverse and complex experiences, including First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Preservice teachers will develop knowledge of evidence-based, effective strategies for partnering with families/carers and community representatives to promote children's learning, thereby promoting inclusion and equity in educational settings. They will develop a thorough understanding of the complex nature of identity formation in children. Preservice teachers will learn how to meaningfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in education and care settings. Preservice teachers will recognise the key role of early childhood education and care in advancing Reconciliation.
