EST533 Primary Specialisation: Special Education, Language and Literacy
This postgraduate unit will foster pre-service teachers' theoretical and pedagogical knowledge of classroom reading and literacy practices for students with additional learning needs in early years and primary school settings. Pre-service teachers will develop in-depth knowledge and skills to meet the needs of a classroom of emergent and early learners with varied reading, language and literacy abilities. Pre-service teachers will grapple with the challenges of assessing student skills as well as differentiating their teaching of reading processes to meet student needs. In this unit, pre-service teachers will explore and work with the Early Years Learning Framework and the Australian Curriculum to align the teaching of reading to grade level expectations for all students. This will include examining the language, literature and literacy strands at an age level of interest.
