ETL302 Secondary Schooling Operations and Practices

This unit is designed to provide pre-service teachers with a comprehensive understanding of theories, practices and legislation that underpin the governance, teaching and operation of secondary schools, particularly junior and senior secondary schools. Students will develop an understanding and interpretation of the relevant state or territory legislation that underpins school operations and their teaching practices. The ideology supporting the operation of junior and senior secondary schools will be reviewed, and relevant research findings on their effectiveness discussed. They will critically analyse and address the provision and success in senior secondary schools of a differentiated curriculum for selected entry, general and vocational education programs. Transformational school leadership will be investigated for the development and trailing of new initiatives for schooling models and improvement programs relevant for the 21st Century.
