This unit covers trends and challenges in embedded system design, design and use of single-purpose processors, general-purpose processors , memories and buses, hardware/software trade-offs, digital systems architectures and design, advanced computation models, chip technologies, modern design tools, very high speed programmable logic, structured design methods, logic simulation, fault diagnosis, test generation, microprocessor programming, assembly language, higher level language programming of microprocessors, and microprocessor communications.

Students studying this unit in external mode must attend residential activity at the Casuarina Campus during the mid-semester break. More information about residentials can be found at http://www.cdu.edu.au/engit/residentials.html

This unit is reliant on on-line materials including electronic submission of assessment items. Students must have access to a reliable high-speed broadband connection and a scanner.
