HSC133 - Perspectives of Indigenous Health

This unit provides students with a foundational understanding of First Nations health perspectives, exploring the historical, social, and political factors that impact the health and wellbeing of First Nations Australians. Students will examine both traditional and contemporary healthcare practices within First Nations communities, alongside Western approaches to health, to gain a balanced view of culturally appropriate and relevant healthcare. Key topics include the impacts of colonisation, systemic inequities, cultural determinants of health, and the importance of cultural security and safety in healthcare settings.
