This unit examines the contemporary socio-cultural narratives and contexts of their engagement with tropical north Australia and nearby South-East Asia through a 'wicked problem' framework. A critical examination of the policy, social and cultural frameworks that operate at both street and government levels in these regions assists in the assessment of the ways in which these frameworks are equipped to address the challenges in the future for the region. Students critically reflect on major issues and the future challenges that are likely to be faced as communities and as individuals, and evaluate relevant, innovative responses.
