IAS568 - Sounds and Sound Systems: Phonetics and Phonology
This unit develops theoretical and applied underpinnings related to sounds and sound systems used in language (the study of phonetics and phonology). Students will examine the production, transmission, and reception of sounds in human speech. Through developing knowledge of and proficiency in the use of the International Phonetic Alphabet, students will analyse language data from various languages, including Australian First Nations languages. Students will also engage with digital applications for the recording, analysis and measurement of speech for an applied approach to phonetics and phonology.
