INL221 - Indigenous Language Maintenance and Revitalisation

This unit addresses the issues involved in the maintenance and revitalisation of languages at risk of extinction. Students will be provided with the theoretical and methodological tools to understand key concepts in language maintenance and/or revitalisation and to apply them to Indigenous language programs. In addition, students will be able to analyse and evaluate the structure of maintenance and revitalisation programs world-wide and assess their applicability to similar programs in Australian Indigenous communities. They will also apply the concepts and methods acquired in the unit to interpret and assess factors involved in the creation of an Australian Indigenous maintenance/revitalisation programs and policies.
