This is the first practical unit in a series of six clinical midwifery units. Students are introduced to midwifery practice skills that promote safe physiological pregnancy, labour, birth, transition to motherhood and breastfeeding initiation for women and their infants. Students will learn and practice fundamental midwifery clinical skills. To meet accreditation requirements students must demonstrate the capacity to establish, build and maintain continuity of midwifery care in their Continuity of Midwifery Care experiences (CoMCE). Students will also attend 40 hours of simulation block and complete 120 hours Professional Experience Placement (PEP) (allocated by CDU) as a part of this unit. Please refer to the College of Nursing and Midwifery website for further details on the requirements for placements and other important information.
