MID307 Specialist Neonatal Care

The purpose of this unit is to provide the knowledge required to enable the midwife to provide holistic, evidence-based care to infants with complex needs to achieve optimal outcomes within a collaborative team. Topics include: the influence of prematurity and adverse perinatal factors on adaptation of the neonate and family, neonatal immune system, teratogenesis, hyaline membrane disease and respiratory distress, jaundice, SIDS, cardiac and other congenital abnormalities, stabilisation of the sick and/or preterm newborn, including care of neonate in an incubator and oxygen therapy.
