MID502 - Midwifery Practice 1

This unit introduces students to midwifery practice skills that promote safe, holistic, woman-centred care. Students will learn and practice fundamental midwifery skills. Major themes explored in this unit include antenatal assessment, labour and birth care, neonatal assessment, early postnatal care, midwifery documentation as well as physiological adaptations affecting 'normal' values for clinical assessment. To meet accreditation requirements students must attend 32 hours of simulation block (hurdle), complete 240 hours Midwifery Practice Experience (MPE) (hurdle) and commence their Continuity of Midwifery Care experiences. The CDU School of Midwifery website has further details on the requirements for MPE placements and other important information.
