MLS100 Medical Laboratory Science

This unit is designed to highlight a range of issues that a graduate medical scientist may experience within the laboratory. They will be expected to understand their role as a medical scientist in the pathology laboratory and the healthcare sector, plus issues relating to professional ethics, quality assurance, accreditation and medico-legal considerations. Students will need to be aware of sample identification, collection and transport from rural areas. They will also need to have an overview of the pathology laboratory and the samples, techniques and equipment used within the various divisions. Students will be expected to retrieve and critically analyse information from various online resources.
