MLS301 - Transfusion Medicine
This unit will enable students to work in blood banks and transfusion services. It will provide them with the knowledge and practical skills to safely perform compatibility testing and investigate transfusion reactions and infections. Students will develop and understanding of the human blood group antigen systems, antigen and antibody reactions and antibody detection and identification. Similarly students will gain knowledge of haemolytic diseases of the newborn and transfusion related disorders. They will also gain an appreciation for the medico-legal and ethical issues associated with the transfusion of blood products.
