MLS502 - Diagnostic Haematology

Diagnosis of haematological disorders requires integration of theoretical knowledge on the aetiology, clinical presentation and laboratory findings. his unit builds on the knowledge from previous study of blood cell production, morphology and function to investigate common blood dyscrasias. Students will examine haemostasis and coagulation disorders as well as haematological neoplasms, with a in-depth focus on myeloproliferative and lymphoproliferative neoplasms, acute and chronic leukaemia's. Practical activities will provide students with the skills to perform coagulation studies, examine peripheral blood films and interpret flow cytometric data for laboratory diagnosis of these conditions.
