NUR253 - Preparation for Nursing Practice 2
This unit aims to extend students knowledge and skills in nursing assessment and person-centred care. Building on foundational knowledge acquired in the first year, this unit continues to extend students assessment skills, clinical reasoning and critical thinking. Throughout this unit, students will engage with a variety of case studies exploring both acute and chronic health conditions and the related holistic culturally safe nursing care. The structured case studies will enable students to draw on contemporary evidence that underpins nursing care.
Students will continue to build their scope as a registered nurse student and be exposed to neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine, musculoskeletal, renal and reproductive conditions and the related person-centred care aligned to the Registered Nurse Standards for Practice and National Safety and Quality Service Standards. As students explore conditions they will engage with patient monitoring and management of the deteriorating patient and related medication management.
A key component of this unit is the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical application in a simulated clinical environment. The 32-hour simulation block (hurdle) will prepare students for their subsequent clinical placements (NUR257 & NUR260).
By the end of this unit, students will be prepared to attend their second year clinical placements and have demonstrated professional responsibility through preparation of pre-placement compliance documents.
