NUR258 - Mental Health (Theory and Placement 3)
This unit builds on nursing knowledge to explore relevant theory and acquire skills in preparation for working in partnership with the people experiencing mental health conditions and challenges, their families and communities across the lifespan. This unit requires students to use the recovery and strengths-based approaches to inform practice and provide nursing care.
Students will gain knowledge to prepare them to recognise and respond to mental health challenges in a wide range of clinical settings including care of self as a healthcare professional. Essential knowledge of mental health wellness and illness across the lifespan including symptom recognition, assessment, and care planning and management will be introduced and evaluated within the context of culturally diverse settings. Ethical and legal aspects of mental health care generally, and the implications for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and culturally safe practice will be critically examined.
To meet accreditation requirements students must attend 80 clinical placement hours (allocated by the CDU Placement Office) as a part of this unit. Please refer to the College of Nursing and Midwifery website for further details on the requirements for placements and other important information.
