This unit develops and enriches students knowledge of the health needs and responses of culturally diverse older people in Australia. Aspects of the nature of ageing, health, common conditions and altered presentation of, and response to, specific diseases by the older person, and the role, knowledge and skills required by the nurse is examined. The multidisciplinary approach to comprehensive health assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation for the older person is considered. Throughout, the important, independent role the nurse plays as an interdisciplinary team member in the delivery of contextual care is highlighted.
