NUR535 - Bioscience for Nursing Practice
In this unit students will examine the pathophysiological mechanisms of adverse health conditions across the lifespan with considerations for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health priorities. Clinical manifestations, nursing assessment, diagnostic investigations and nursing care of acute and chronic health conditions will be investigated. Students will be introduced to the fundamental science concepts in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics across broad classes of medication to treat and manage adverse health conditions.
The focus of this unit is the registered nurse's role and responsibility in medication management, including safe administration practices, medication errors, adverse effects and drug interactions. Common pathological processes which occur across the body systems will be studied to provide a foundation knowledge of microbiology and infection control.
