NUR543 - Leadership in Clinical Practice

In this unit, students will critically consider the process of designing, implementing and evaluating a leadership project. Leadership is vital for effective practice change and for addressing professional issues. At a global level, its importance is recognised and fostered by the International Council of Nurses Leadership for Change. At a national level, it is supported by the Australian College of Nursing Institute of Leadership, which prepares nurses with leadership skills required to implement organisational change for the purpose of improving nursing practice and achieving better health outcomes.

This unit will support students to develop knowledge and skills for future leadership roles in different professional contexts. Different leadership models will be critically examined to determine appropriate models for different projects. Students will identify and design a leadership project for a specific issue in a nursing practice context. The project must reflect a critical consideration of the application, as appropriate, of the NMBA Code of Conduct and the ICN Code of Ethics. Students will also present their proposal and critically reflect on the project design process in relation to the leadership models.
