This unit provides an introduction to ethics and privacy in computer science and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). It aims to provide students with a set of methods and models that can be used to examine ethics and privacy issues related to ICT. This includes cutting-edge digital technologies, and their impact on individuals, organisations and the wider society. The construction and evaluation of ethical arguments and the Codes of Ethics relevant to ICT are an essential part of this unit. The risks and challenges arising from existing and emerging technologies and the use and application of data are also discussed. Students are introduced to skills for professional reflection, essential for objectively evaluating their own practice as ICT professionals and are encouraged to collaborate and develop effective communication skills.
