The unit reviews the history of the field, as well as current approaches to understanding trauma from cognitive, neuropsychological, developmental, biopsychosocial and clinical viewpoints. The unit examines the psychological sequelae associated with exposure to potentially traumatising events, examining responses to a variety of traumas including childhood trauma, adult sexual assault, combat, domestic violence, and natural disasters. An important focus of the course will involve examining psychological theory and approaches to trauma management, intervention and assessment.
