This unit will explore how psychology can help in better understanding social and cultural phenomena. We will discuss the relations of individual, cultural and social aspects, including topics such as attitudes and beliefs, social influence and persuasion, pro-social and antisocial behaviour and intergroup relations. We will highlight research in these and other areas as we acknowledge the diversity of human social and cultural behaviour. A community psychology perspective as well as some critical approaches to the study of society and culture will be included. The many applications of social and cultural psychology theories and concepts in research and real life contexts will be highlighted.
