PSY503 Psychological Assessment

Students will undertake a comprehensive grounding in the theories and practical application of psychological assessments required for clinical practice. Students learn to integrate clinical, behavioural, and psychometric data to systematically assess common psychological problems, develop case formulations, and plan appropriate treatment strategies for individuals across the lifespan. Thorough coverage of critical issues related to the psychological assessment of special populations (e.g., intellectual disability, culturally and linguistically diverse, rehabilitation) and assessment in specific settings (e.g., educational, forensic, hospital, remote communities) is provided. A range of psychological instruments is discussed, demonstrated and administered, including intelligence tests, ability tests, personality tests, tests of relationships, health and mood states. Skills in clinical interview, behavioural observation, test selection, administration and interpretation will be achieved through 'hands-on' experience.
