PSY520 Assessment and Diagnosis: Children and Adolescents
In this unit students will gain specific knowledge of the history of child and adolescent psychopathology and examine current methods of classification and diagnosis. By critically examining differential diagnoses, symptom overlap, and sociocultural concepts of psychopathology students will develop a broad biopsychosocial understanding of psychopathology. In assessing the presenting problems of children and adolescents, students will formulate hypotheses to inform psychological intervention. Students will develop skills in the selection, administration, interpretation and reporting of standardised child and adolescent psychological assessment and testing. Knowledge, skills and attitudes specific to culturally responsive reflective practice will be integrated to inform psychological assessment and diagnosis. These competencies will provide a strong foundation for the safe and ethical delivery of evidence-based practice.
