MLS283 - Clinical Immunology
This unit covers the biological and functional aspects of the immune system. Students will develop an understanding of the immunological tissues and the innate and adaptive immune responses. They will need to know lymphocyte physiology and their membrane antigens, the structure and function of antibodies, the complement systems and the role of the MCH complex and cytokines in health and disease. Students will be familiar with the role the immune system plays in infectious diseases, hypersensitivity, immunodeficiency and autoimmunity and the development of tumours. Finally this unit will consider a range of immunological techniques applicable in both diagnostic and research laboratories.
