SBI284 - Histology and Histochemistry
This unit will expand on the knowledge students acquired during anatomy and physiology. They will develop an understanding of the structure and function of cellular components, tissues and organs, at a microscopic level to assess the pathology of the major human systems, such as nervous, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, respiratory and urinary. Students will further be provided with a working knowledge of tissue fixation, processing, embedding, sectioning and staining. They will also learn about special fixation methods, bone decalcification, artefacts and pigments and diagnostic cytology through practical sessions.
