SBI300 - Obstetrics and Women's Health in Paramedicine
This unit will develop knowledge and skills in caring for obstetric and neonatal patients in the acute setting. In addition to acquiring skills to assist with normal deliveries and newborn care in the out of hospital environment, students will learn how to identify and manage obstetrical emergencies and neonatal resuscitation. Understanding of the anatomical and physiological changes that occur during pregnancy will be taught alongside extrinsic factors that influence women's health and wellbeing during these times. The unit will also encompass a broader education into women's health outside of pregnancy and will include discussions on topics surrounding inequalities in healthcare, biases and domestic violence. Students will will be taught the vital role paramedics undertake in the support and management of female patients.
