SMA101 Mathematics 1A
This unit, together with SMA102, covers a range of foundation topics in algebra and calculus as needed for science, engineering and other disciplines. Topics cover the following in algebra: number systems, vectors, systems of equations, matrices, determinants, complex numbers; and the following in calculus: functions, limits, continuity, differentiation, maxima and minima, curve sketching, integration, logarithm and exponential functions, mean value theorem, and l'Hopital's rule. Students will also make use of Matlab to perform mathematical calculations.
This unit uses on-line materials including the electronic submission of assessment items. Students must have access to a reliable high-speed broadband connection and a scanner.
