SMA211 Mathematics 2B

This unit builds on previous study of mathematics at 100 level. It covers the properties and methods of the solution of first and second order ordinary differential equations, systems of linear ordinary differential equations, and properties of Fourier series, and develops applications to science and engineering. Properties of vector calculus and its applications, solutions of partial differential equations, and introduction to numerical methods for differential equations will also be covered. Computer software (Matlab) is used where appropriate as an integral part of the unit in order to calculate both exact and numerical solutions of differential equations, and Fourier expansions of periodic functions.
