This unit further develops the Sociological themes introduced in SOC140 but widens their application to a range of new issues and topics. These include the Sociology of deviance; health, ageing and demography; poverty; religion; mass media; urbanization, globalization and community, as well as key issues in Sociological method and theory. These themes are organized around an examination of power, legitimacy and citizenship in the modern state.
