As well it describes some of the things that can happen in families and schools when children have hearing loss. Conductive hearing loss is one of the most common illnesses that children experience during childhood, and approximately a third of children at any point in time have it during early childhood. And among  Aboriginal children to between 50 and 90 percent depending on where children live.
