Assessment and reporting are significant aspects of the learning and teaching process. Assessment monitors the learning progress and demonstrates achievement of outcomes, and reporting makes results available to a range of audiences. The need for teachers to understand the complexities surrounding the various approaches to formative and summative assessment is an essential component of their work. Through the examination of research evidence and principles and key terms, preservice teachers explore the nature of assessment, feedback and reporting, and its importance and relevance to student learning.
